Lucille Marie Liebig, 92, of Sterling, entered into eternal life on September 13, 2017 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO. Lucille, the youngest of 12 children born to Alfred and Sarah (Louden) Johnson, was born on October 1, 1924 in Columbus, Nebraska. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1942. On November 15, 1944, she married Joseph Liebig of Platte Center, NE at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. They farmed the family homestead north of Columbus until moving to Sterling in 1955, where they co-owned and operated the Broadway Conoco with his brother Ed, and later Liebig Brothers J&L Texaco.

Lucille was a homemaker, who in her younger years enjoyed boating, square dancing, weekly card games, and hosting family holidays. Later in life she enjoyed tending her roses and solving crossword puzzles. Her favorite pastime was playing scrabble. Until two years ago she was able to regularly beat her opponents, despite the challenge presented by her Alzheimer’s. Lucille was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Lucille is survived by five children, Nancy (Larry) Savard of Lake in the Hills, Illinios, Pat Lechman of Loveland, CO, Susan (Roger) Schaefer of Ft. Morgan, CO, Joe (Dori) Liebig of Sterling and Linda (Ned) Villemarette of Carollton, TX. Grandchildren are Scott Harris, Carla (Sean) Covell, Rick (Heather) Lechman, Justin (Erin) Schaefer, Aaron Schaefer and Noah and Nick Villemarette. Great-grandchildren are Parker Byrd, Emma and Lauren Covell and Hannah Lechman.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 44 years, Joe Liebig, seven sisters, and four brothers.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Tennant Funeral Home with Vigil and Rosary evening service following at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, Sept. 20 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lucille’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital c/o Tennant Funeral Home, PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
