The son of (Living) Kinder and (Living) Martin, Chris' parents were married in Calhoun County, Illinois on 08 Mar 1975.

Chris was born at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois. His paternal grandparents were Ellis and Edna Kinder.

At age 2, Chris was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Despite his diagnosis, he grew up in Brussels playing sports. He enjoyed lifting weights and helped out on the family farm.

Chris attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels. His first step-mother served as the mayor of Brussels for a number of years.

In 2001, Chris suffered a collapsed lung. That began a decline in his health that grew more and more serious until the summer of 2005. By that time, he was 6-foot-1, but his weight had dropped to 139 pounds. He was on oxygen 24 hours a day and always felt exhausted.

Chris became the 800th person to undergo a lung transplant at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. A Washington University thoracic surgeon performed a double lung transplant on 16 Jun 2005.

In less than 2 weeks, Chris was discharged from the hospital. He was soon able to return to an active lifestyle.

Chris lived until the early fall of 2017. At the time of his death, he was 41 years, 4 months and 21 days old. Survivors included his parents.

A Celebration of Faith was held at 10:30 a.m. on the morning of 14 Oct 2017 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels. Interment followed at Cresswell Cemetery. Family and friends then gathered for a luncheon at the American Legion in Brussels.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the Brussels Village Park.
