Joseph E. Staggenborg, 84, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in the presence of his family.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, October 6, at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 7, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 7, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Joseph was born January 12, 1933 in Elm Creek Township to Frank and Anna Staggenborg. He attended grade school at Pleasant Prairie country school and graduated from Marysville High School in the spring of 1950. Joe joined the U.S. Army in February of 1957.

He married Sharon Alexander on August 30, 1957 at Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX where Joe was stationed. After Joe’s service in the Army, he returned to Marysville to farm for the next 51 years. Joe also worked for Schell Construction for many years. Joe and Sharon raised seven children, Mark of Woodbury, MN, Frank of Marysville, KS, Ann Mann of Waterville, KS, Daniel of Troy, OH, Scott of Lubbock, TX, and twins, Kurt of Marysville, KS and Kelly Berkley of Downs, KS.

Joe was a lifelong member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1777 and a 4th degree member of Ponce DeLeon Assembly. He was member of the Marysville Moose Lodge and served as Elm Creek Township Trustee.

He was preceded in death by three children, twins Robert and Katherine, and a daughter, Cassandra; his parents and his sister Mary Leonard and brother Francis. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Gregory’s Catholic School. Contributions can be sent in care of Kinsley’s Mortuary.
