Mrs. Ellis was known as Miss Rathmann to a generation of student nurses at Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, New York. She was an exacting leader who set very high standards for both instructors and students which is why Millard grads are held in such high esteem. You did not want to disappoint her, and being called to her office was something you worked hard to avoid. She was strict but fair. We knew she cared about each one of us.
She married Richard F. Ellis in 1979, he predeceased her. After retirement she authored The History of Millard Fillmore's School of Nursing for its 100th anniversary in 1987.
She was survived by two brothers and their wives, two nieces, and two nephews. Her funeral service was held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Williamsville, where she was a long time member and Lay Reader. Burial was in Elmlawn Cemetery in Kenmore, NY. She is buried next to her husband.
