Long Island City, Queens County, New York. The records of the Reformed Church at Jamaica make frequent mention of Cornelius Hoogland during the early years of the society. About the last appearance of his name is to designate him as church master in 1720. His widow [Catalina Remse] survived him for more than ten years, being a witness to the baptism of her grandson [Cornelius b.1730 d.1755] at Jamaica in 1730.


Cornelius Dirckszen Hoogland was probably born circa 1677 at Flatbush, Kings County, Long Island, New York.

He married Jannetje Hegeman, daughter of Joseph Adriaenszen Hegeman and Femmetje Remse.

His marriage to Catalina Remse, daughter of Rem Jansen and Jannetje Jorise Rapalje.

Also known as Cornelius Hoogland.

He lived at Flatbush and after his second marriage became a resident of Flushing, Long Island. He is mentioned in the records of the Reformed Church at Jamaica, Long Island during its early years.


"Note of Tonis Nyssen to Cornelis Dircksen Hoochlant. I, the undersigned, Tonis Nysz, acknowledge that I am well and truly indebted to Cornelis Dircksz Hoochlant in the sum of four hundred Carolus guilders, arising from the purchase of cows which I have received to my satisfaction, promising to pay one-half next May and the other half in May 1645, free of costs and charges. In witness whereof this is signed by Tonis Nysz. Done the 21st of Dec. 1643 in Fort Amsterdam. X Mark of Tonis Nysz, above mentioned."
