Melvin G. Triesch Sr. passed away at his home in Spanaway surrounded by his family on April 12, 2004 after a long battle with cancer. Mel was born November 8, 1927 in Prosser, Washington, son of Edward and Louise Triesch. Mel came to Pierce County in 1942, he graduated from Sumner Highs School, class of 1946. He was in lumber sales all his life, starting as a teenager in Sumner. Mel was well known in the lumber business in the Tacoma area. He started Fircrest supply in the early 60s, he also worked for Puget Sound Plywood and Georgia Pacific before going to work in the Olympia area. He retired from Bayview Building Materials in 1992. He was a member of WBMA 40 year club. Mel was an Army veteran, serving during the occupation of Japan. Mel liked all sports and was a big Mariners fan. He coached little league baseball and soccer when his sons were growing up. After retiring he and Pat enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Yuma, AZ.Mel is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat; sons, James of Newberg, OR, and Melvin Jr. of Spanaway, WA; daughters, Cally (Ron) Leighton of Renton, WA, Donna (Robert) Hays of Kennewick, WA, Barbara Abshier of Lakewood, WA, and Kay (Gary) Herzog of Seattle, WA; brothers, Richard of Sumner, WA, Ray of Wenatchee, WA; sister Mary Worley of Newport, WA; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 1 great great grandchild. The family wishes to thank Dr. Alfred Chan and staff for their special care, Good Samaritan Hospice and Homecare, and Anita. When tomorrow starts you will be here in our hearts. We love you.Visitation will be 11am-9pm April 16, at Mt. View Funeral Home. Services on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 2pm in the Mt. View Celebration of Life Center.
