Mr. Joe Williams, for thirty-seven years a resident of Groton, died of a cerebral hemorrhage on Friday afternoon, January 17, 1958, in his office on Main street. He was sixty-two years old.

Joseph Julian Williams was born on July11, 1895, near Hecla. After finishing high school in Aberdeen, he attended college in Kansas before enlisting in the armed services during World War I. He was commissioned a second Lieutenant in the Air Force. After his period of service he returned to Aberdeen, and on November 20, 1919, he married Frances N. Miller of Groton. They made their home in Groton after 1921 and had two children, a son and a daughter. For many years Mr. Williams was connected with the First National Bank of Groton, and after leaving the bank he was engaged in business as an insurance and real estate agent. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Groton; Groton Lodge 65, A. F. and A. M.; Groton Chapter 39, R. A. M.; Damascus Commandry; Yelduz Temple Shrine; American Legion Post 39. and the Groton Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Frances N. Williams, of New York, New York, and his sister, Mrs. Roy Glover, of Frederick, S. D.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m., on Tuesday, January 21, at the First Presbyterian Church of Groton. Rev. Harvey Sander of the Groton Methodist Church, conducted the services. A quartet composed of Mrs. Almos Doeringsfeld, Mrs. Richard Mylin, Mr. Paul Krueger and Mr. Gilbert Erdmann, sang two hymns. Mrs. Ben Anderson was the organist.

The pall bearers were Messrs. Amos Doeringsfeld, Juel Kolbo, Louis Drueger, Vance Miller, Earl Mueller, Robert Volk, Harry Booker, Delbert Clawson, Wilford Dresbach, Randall Hall, Sr., Randall Hall, Jr., Frank Jiran, George Kline, Earl Meredith and Roy Richards, all of Groton, and Dr. B. C. Murdy and Mr. Max Stokes of Aberdeen. Burial was in the Groton Union Cemetery.
