Frieda M. Bowes

Lincoln, January 30, 1927 - November 16, 2017

Frieda (Mohr) Bowes, 90, passed peacefully the morning of November 16, 2017. She was born in Lincoln on January 30, 1927, to John and Anna-Maria (Stehr) Mohr. After graduating from Lincoln High in 1945, she worked at The Banker's Life as a legal secretary for 15 years. She met Mason Bowes, a baseball player from North Carolina, at the Cornhusker Hotel and they were married from 1951 until his death in 2011. They were blessed with a daughter named Ann and a son named Alan.

For decades they owned and operated the Town Pump Liquor Store, the first in Lincoln licensed to sell spirits outside the downtown area. Frieda's steadfast nature was tempered by passionate faith. She was an active member of Vine UCC Church for over 50 years and lived out her Christian ethic by delivering Meals-on-Wheels for over 25 years. She lived her life by serving others.

She is survived by: children Ann (Gary) Karthauser and Alan Bowes; grandchildren Kyle (Mayuka) Karthauser and Sarah (Cameron) Glenn; sister Florence Malone, sister-in-law Jayne Mohr (Colorado), Carol Hughes (South Boston, Virginia), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Mason, her parents, and three brothers: Walter, Dietrich, and Eugene Mohr. All will miss her more than words can say.
