He was born January 12, 1958 at Danville, Illinois, the son of Quentin M. and Belinda (Allen) Abernathy. Mark married Fara Susan Bugle June 25, 1978 at Covington and she died October 28, 2011.
Surviving are two sons, Jason and Joe (Alyssa), both of Covington; a daughter, Fara Abernathy of Rockville; his mother, Belinda Abernathy of Covington; a special friend, Susan Coffing of Covington and two brothers, Brian Abernathy of Covington and Kurt (Tina) Abernathy of Saint Cloud, Florida.
His father preceded him in death.
Mark was a life resident of Covington and a 1976 graduate of Covington High School. He was a carpenter with the family business, Abernathy Home Improvements for forty-five years. Mark was a member of First Church of Christ and had been attending West Liberty Church of Christ.
He enjoyed his family, his work as a builder, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, horses, flying, cars and car shows.
