He was born in Leavenworth on January 12, 1923 to parents Edward and Elizabeth Werner Alig and lived and worked in Leavenworth most of his life.
In 1946, Ed married Norma Elaine Hoppe at St. Paul's Lutheran Church . Together, they raised two daughters, Linda and Carol, and a son, Edward III.
Ed worked as a civilian employee at Fort Leavenworth for over 25 years. Soon after retiring, he and Elaine moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri where Ed was a founding member of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church. In 2013, Ed and Elaine moved to Flower Mound, Texas.
Ed is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Elaine, daughters Linda Schaefer and husband Marlow, Carol Brown and husband Tom, and son Edward Alig III and wife Leslie. A brother Robert, and two sisters Rose Marie and Doris also survive.
