A carpenter, Mr. Maeder worked at St. Mary's hospital. He was deaf and did not hear the bell of an elevator approaching, when he got into the elevator shaft. Someone had called the elevator to the first floor, during the time Mr. Maeder was walking into it in the basement. He was injured, and died at St. Mary's hospital, within the same morning, of his injuries. A wife and four grown children survived to mourn his loss. The family residence was 1225 Elm in Quincy Illinois. The funeral took place at St. John's Catholic church, with interment at St. Boniface cemetery, in Quincy, Illinois.
