Jan Teunissen Van Pelt was baptized on 14 December 1645 at Dutch Reformed Church of Haaften, Gelderland, The Netherlands.
Jan Van Pelt was among those who petitioned King William III to be delivered from the power of the Leislerian faction.
Jan Van Pelt emigrated 1663 and settled on Staten Island where he obtained a patent for a tract of land on 10 Oct 1674 and where he also bought land in 1683. He was appointed Lieut. of Infantry for Richmond County in 1689, and was a member of the Assembly in 1692.
He married Maria Pieterse circa 1670.
Witnessed the baptism of Pieter Gulick, son of Jochem Gulick and Jacomina Teunise, on 22 September 1689 at Old First Dutch Reformed Church, Breuckelen (Brooklyn), Kings Co., Long Island, New York, (witnesses Jan Theunisse, Lijsbet Janse).
Jan Teunissen Van Pelt settled at Staten Island, Richmond Co., New York. Deed of conveyances dated 11 Dec 1700 by Jan and Maria and Anthony Van Pelt and his wife Magdelena, Hendrick Van Pelt and his wife Annetje, Wouter Van Pelt and wife Maria, Joachim Gulick and wife Jacomyntie all of NY, deed Aert Van Pelt land in New Utrecht bound by that of Anthony Van Pelt and Hendrick Mattyssen, all sign, registered 7 May 1701.
