Wedding of Feilding Interest
WATTS—HUDSON
A wedding of Feilding interest took place in the Presbyterian Church, Eketahuna, last month [Aug. 24], the contracting parties being Mary Fleming, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hudson (Newman, Eketahuna), and Leading Aircraftsman Joseph Walter Pountney Watts, R.N.Z.A.F., younger son of Mrs. A. M. Watts, of Fitzroy Street, Feilding, and the late Mr. R. E. Watts, of Wellington. Rev. John Davie, Masterton, officiated. The church had been decorated with flowers of mauve and pink by friends of the bride. The bride, who was escorted, by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin. The full bodice-fell from a ruched shoulderline, and heart-shaped neckline, to join a tight-fitting inserted ruched belt, from which rows of ruching formed a bustle which fell into a long train. Her tulle veil fell from a topknot of blossom to form a second train. She carried a sheaf of lilies, hyacinths, freesias and maidenhair fern and wore a gold jewelled pendant which her mother had worn on her wedding day. Attending the bride were Miss Marion McAnulty, Eketahuna, and Miss Joan Watts, Wellington, sister of the bridegroom. They wore frocks of lilac georgette and sprays of mauve and lilac anemones in their hair. Their shower bouquets were of mauve and pink sweet peas, anemones and maidenhair fern. Each wore a rhinestone necklace.
Mr. John M. Watts, Palmerston North, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr. Lewis G. Neubauer, Wellington, was groomsman. During the signing of the register Miss M. Wilson sang "O Perfect Love."
A reception was held afterward in the Oddfellows' Hall, where Mrs. Hudson received the guests, among whom were visitors from Auckland, New Plymouth, Levin, Feilding, Dannevirke, Wellington and the South Island. Mrs. Hudson's airforce blue pin-striped ensemble was worn with a fur and cruise blue accessories. She carried a bouquet of hyacinths, sweet peas and maidenhair fern. Mrs. Watts, mother of the 'groom, wore a dark pin-striped costume with matching accessories and fox fur and carried a red bouquet. (Manawatu Times, Sept. 16, 1940)
