BEEVILLE — James Power Heard, 77, of Beeville, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
He was born June 20, 1921, in Refugio, to the late John Wells and Frances Thelma Woodworth Heard. He earned a B.A. degree from Rice Institute and was a member of Rice University Alumni Association, Rice University Association and Brown Society of Rice University. He served in World War II as a first lieutenant. He was a rancher and an investor. He was a member of Sons of the Republic of Texas served as a director of First National Bank since 1965 and was chairman of director Loan Committee for 11 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served on the church finance committee from 1971 to 1994 and was chairman from 1972 to 1980.
Survivors: sons, James P Heard Jr, and Mark Francis Heard, both of Austin, Brian Patrick Heard of Now York, N.Y, and Philip John Heard and Paul Bower Heard, both of Beeville; brother, John Francis Hoard of Houston; and 10 grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: wife, Marguerite Ada Domingues Heard.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church In Beeville, with Monsignor John Killeen and the Rev. Tim Kinast officiating. Galloway & Sons, Inc., Beeville, 361-358-2512.
Pallbearers: Lander Blackwell, James P. Heard Jr., Mark Francis Heard, Brian Patrick Heard, Philip John Heard and Paul Bower Heard.
