Charles Franklin (Boomer) Williams lost a three year battle to cancer.
Frank was born at home in Farmer City, Illinois on May 5, 1938 to Wes and Fern Williams. He grew up in this small town until he attended Milliken University, Decatur, IL, and jokingly told his children throughout their lives that he paid his way through college serving the rich girls’ dinner in their hall.
He married Alice Ann Copenhaver, who preceded him in death in 1978.
Upon graduation he went to work for General Motors as a manager, then worked in manufacturing as a Supervisor at International Harvester Truck division in Fort Wayne, IN. He quickly tired of the corporate life and moved to Arizona, burned all his suits and bought a horse.
He worked at Arizona Peterbilt in Phoenix, then taught Engineering and Technology at Central Arizona College for thirty-eight years. For many years he also worked with MM Sundt Construction. He was fondly referred to as “Mr. Goodwrench”.
He and his wife Lynda also established a water treatment equipment company which they operated together for twenty years until cancer knocked at their door.
One of his first and dearest friends in Arizona was Marvin Wuertz who sold him the land soon to become the W6 Ranch where he died at home. In 1982 he met and married Lynda, they married as a family and together, raised three children; Paul and Gregg Smith and DeAnna Allen at the W6. They often joked about getting through life together with laughter and tears, usually always together. Where you saw one; you knew the other wasn’t too far away. Quick witted, loved by many and respected by all. His legacy is beyond comprehension.
He was a long-time member and past president of Coolidge Sheriff’s Posse, an elected CAVIT board member, Florence-Coolidge Elk Lodge #2350, member of Coolidge VFW and NRA. Pilot of his Cessna 182 and Captain of his own ocean cruising vessel PJ’s Boomerang.
He leaves behind his wife, Lynda of 29 years, a son, Paul and daughter by marriage, Tonya of Casa Grande, a son, Gregg and daughter by marriage, Kelly of Gilbert, a daughter, DeAnna and son by marriage, George of Casa Grande, adopted son, Lalo and seven grandchildren that he adored: PJ, Brady, Brea, Seth, Chance, Nikki and Justin.
A brother, Wayne and his wife Sally of Farmer City, IL, two sisters, Mary Howe and Hannah McCarty of Farmer City, Illinois.
Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ace and Bob.
Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 2:30 PM at W6 Ranch located at 810 S. Sunshine Blvd., Casa Grande, AZ 85194.
