Thelma Jean Headley, 76, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley following heart surgery.

She was born October 8, 1935 in Brush to B. J. and Catherine Bersch.

Jean had lived in the Snyder and Hillrose area most of her life. She graduated from Hillrose High School in 1953.

On June 6, 1953, Jean married Galen L. Headley, the love of her life. Since Galen was stationed with the U.S. Navy in New York City, they moved to New York City.

Jean returned to Morgan County in 1954 where she awaited Galen's discharge. Always active, Jean served as a Town Trustee and was Town Clerk for Hillrose for several years. Additionally, Jean served in the various churches she attended over the years. She frequently taught Sunday School, especially enjoying teaching the younger children. Jean enjoyed reading, crocheting, baking bread and Christmas candies, had a unique recipe for hot chocolate and enjoyed working in her garden.

Survivors include her children, Michael and his wife, Jackie, of Fort Morgan; Lynn and her husband, Ed Golemboski of Hillrose; Daniel and his wife, Carol of Denver, and Pam, and her husband, Mike Yearous of Deer Trail, CO; 1 brother, Bill Bersch of Grand Junction; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 1 sister, Dorothy Brannan, and her parents. A celebration of Jean's life will be Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Hope Community Church in Brush. The service will conclude at the church. The Heer & Dahl Mortuaries & Crematory are entrusted with cremation arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, friends may send memorial gifts to the Jean Headley Memorial Fund, c/o the Heer & Dahl Mortuaries.
