Norval R. "Smokey" Hamlet, 95, formerly of Rockport, IN died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. He was born on March 27, 1912 in Ohio County, Kentucky to the late John H. and Mary A. (Kirk) Hamlet. He retired from Redi-Mix Concrete and attended Lincoln Hills Baptist Church. He worked on the construction of the Waterson Expressway in Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Theda Mae Hamlet, his second wife, Edna Hamlet, and by a son and daughter, Charlie Hamlet and June Gravett. Gardening was his life and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell & Mary Jean Hamlet of Texas, Jim & Judy Hamlet of Maceo, KY and Larry & Carolyn Hamlet of Gatewood, KY; five daughters and sons-in-law, Anita & Bill Underwood of Florida, Donna & Jim Durham of Georgia, Doris & David Tomes of Owensboro, Linda & Ted Hicks of Alabama and Vicki & Joe Peay of Reed, KY; 22 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Services are at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2007 at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Reed, KY. Visitation is from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. on Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.
