Hazel Louise Green Watson, 84, of Ringgold, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord on February 2, 2018 at a local nursing home.

Hazel was born in Walker County, GA, on August 23, 1933. She grew up in the East Lake area, attending the grammar and Junior High Schools in East Lake, and she was a proud 1951 graduate of Central High School. An exceptional athlete, Hazel participated in recreational and organized softball and basketball during her youth years. Hazel was an awesome cook. She was a past member of ABWA (American Business Women’s Association) and the Catholic Ladies of Charity.

Hazel had a 24 year working career as a bookkeeper with American National Bank (now SunTrust Bank). Hazel was a People person. She had a profound love for her family and friends. She had a special empathy for the poor and less fortunate. She was so proud to have grown up in the East Lake Community. During her later years, her greatest thrill was taking a drive down 13th Avenue, and reminiscing about the area where she grew up and attended school. She had a special love for her late husband of 65 years, Bill Watson, and her immediate family: children, grandchildren, her mother and father, and her brothers and sisters.

Hazel attended the East Lake Baptist Church where she was baptized and she accepted as a youth, Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Hazel was preceded in death by her father, Ira, her mother, Velma, her brother, Medford, her brother, Tommy, and her sister Trixie.

Hazel is survived by her two sons, William, Jr., and Bob (Stacey); her granddaughter, Tiffany Vincent; a great-grandson and great-granddaughter, Hagen and Aria; a very close younger brother, Billy Green, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who she thought the world of. She had a special fondness for her relatives, neighbors, and her working career colleagues.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to one of the following charities that Hazel supported: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Joseph’s Indian School, the Paralyzed Veterans of America, and Hospice of Chattanooga.

A Special Appreciation and Thank You is bestowed upon the dedicated staffs at the Fort Oglethorpe and Rossville facilities: Cornerstone Medical Center, Parkside Nursing Home, and Hospice of Chattanooga.

Funeral Mass services will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church with Father Bertin Glennon officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery
