Was born Charles Mayne and when he left Ireland in his late teens he took the surname of Reid.. We were led to believe that it was his mothers maiden name, later proved wrong, may have been his Grandmothers maiden name.
He was born in Six Mile Cross, a small townland and village in Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, where his parents Thomas & Mary Mayne Farmed.. He had nine siblings.

Jane (Jean) Scott.. b.July 1889 daughter of Alexander and Ellen Scott (Nee McClintock) who is buried in the Reid Plot) contracted Influenza in 1918 and died at Scotts Normal School, one of the schools in Wellington that were set up as Temporary Hospitals during the pandemic.
