George J. Harveth, age 93, of Highland, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 64 years, Clare; children: Greg (Rita) Harveth, Suellen (Rhett) Tauber, and Gary (JoAnn) Harveth; nine grandchildren: Tara (Doug) Shaw, Steven (Alana) Harveth, Justin (Brittany) Tauber, Megan (fiance', Seth) Harveth, Joshua Harveth, Brandon (Kari) Tauber, Zachary (fiance', Mary) Harveth, Jared Tauber, and Brandi (Justin) Sidor; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steven and Mary Horvath and sister, Irene Otto.

Funeral services will be held at the Fagen Miller Funeral Home, 2828 Highway Ave., in Highland on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to follow at Our Lady of Grace Church at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Edward Moszur, officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Friends and relatives may meet with the family on Monday, at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.

George grew up in East Chicago (Sunnyside) attending St. Patrick grade school. He was a proud graduate of E. C. Washington, Class of 1937. He honorably served his country with the U. S. Marine Corp., Pacific Theater, during WWII. He retired from Sinclair (ARCO) with over 30 years of service, and also Highland's Warren School, where he served as custodian for over 10 years. Since 1953, he was a devoted member of Our Lady of Grace parish. George lived life to the fullest, enjoying travel, sports (Cubs and Bears), swing music, photography, and being among his family and many wonderful friends. He was a gentle soul. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Calumet area.
