1928 – 2018
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Robert Reuben Klaus, 89, formerly of East Tawakoni, will be held Saturday, April 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Terrell Bible Church, 801 Johnson St., Terrell. Pastor Drake Torp-Pedersen will officiate.
Mr. Klaus died on March 7, 2018, at City Hospital at White Rock, Dallas. He was born April 15, 1928, in Grover, Colo., to Henry and Emma (Keiser) Klaus.
He was raised on a farm in Windsor, Colo., and graduated from Windsor High School in 1946. He graduated from Colorado A&M in Fort Collins in 1950 with a degree in animal husbandry. He attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval training station and then was stationed in Guam during the Korean Conflict. He served in the U.S. Navy from
September 1950-July 1952. He was accepted to and graduated from Officers Candidate School. He served as an officer in the Amphibious Forces in the Pacific Ocean and San Diego, Calif., until 1955.
Mr. Klaus attended Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, training for ministry and graduated in 1959. He was accepted into the North Africa Mission agency as a missionary, serving among Muslims in Tunis, Algeria and Morocco. He was involved with evangelism, discipleship, church planting and managing a Christian bookstore. There he met and married fellow missionary Barbara Norton on June 30, 1961, in Rabat, Morocco, where they served until 1971.
Later he worked as a security guard at Well Span York Hospital until his retirement in 1994. His family then moved to East Tawakoni, where he lived for 21 years.
Mr. Klaus is survived by three children, Jonathan Klaus and wife Chris of Greenville, Susan Woychuk and husband James of Garland, and Karen Morgan and husband Booker of Wallington, N.J.; brother-in-law Charles A. Norton, Dover, Del.; 11 grandchildren; and 19 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Wilma Klaus; brother, Harold "Bud" Klaus in 2011; wife, Barbara in 2012; and son, Keith in 2015.
