OBITUARY: RONALD LEE BERNHARDT

Ronald Lee Bernhardt was born in Denver, CO on November 30, 1949 to Harold and Esther (Pribnow) Bernhardt. He lived and attended school in various Colorado, New Mexico and Nebraska towns. Ron moved to Broken Bow, NE when he was a freshman in high school and graduated in 1967. He attended the University of Nebraska Fine Arts Program and Commercial Art School in St. Paul, MN. He worked as a graphic artist in the commercial art field and in the sign industry.

He met his wife, Elaine (Clapper), in Broken Bow and they were married on August 3rd, 1968. Ron and Elaine lived in Lincoln where their son Mason was born. Their second son, Joseph was born in St. Paul, MN. The family has resided on an acreage near Giltner since 1979. Mason passed away at age 17 on August 15th, 1990 in a car accident and Joseph lives in Grand Island.

Ron and Elaine are members of Messiah Lutheran Church. Ron coached Mason’s baseball team one year and was instrumental to the Giltner Cub Scout Pack 106 for several years. He was a swimmer and enjoyed the pool and people at the Grand Island YMCA. Ron played the guitar, loved all music and expressed his creativity through photography, print making, pen and ink, graphite and pencil drawings, acrylic and oil painting, water color, wood working/carving and of course, signage. Ron loved mornings as they gave him a fresh beginning and a blank canvas.
