Ruth Ann Eyerley, 71, originally of Shickshinny passed away into eternal peace at home on Thursday afternoon, April 12, 2018, in Camdenton, Missouri. Born in her grandmothers home on Parker Hill in Shickshinny on July 31, 1946, Ruth Ann was the youngest daughter of the late Thomas F. and Norma (McDaniels) Carter. As neighbors, Ruth Ann was lovingly named by her future mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Eyerley. Her future husband, Clayton Sonny, visited her as a newborn and presented her with her very first gift, a few modest pennies.
Ruth Ann graduated from Northwest Area High School in 1964, and married Clayton Sonny Eyerley on Jan. 23, 1965. The couple owned and operated Eyerley Sanitation in Luzerne and Columbia counties from 1972-1983, but they will be most notably remembered as the owners of Son Rae Market in Huntington Mills, a business they operated for 32 years until their retirement in 2011. The couple celebrated 51 years of marriage the week before Sonnys passing on Jan. 29, 2015.
Ruth Ann was a member of the Bloomingdale United Methodist Church, and was an avid supporter of the Alzheimers Association and the National Parkinsons Foundation.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Sonny Eyerley; her oldest sister, Janet Killian; her younger brother, Thomas J. Carter; and her godson, Rodger Tinker Killian.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son, Mark Clayton Eyerley, Shickshinny; her daughter, Stacey and her husband Maj. Wayne P. Meckley, Camdenton, Mo.; three grandsons; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; her older sister, Jane Gurns of Berwick; and many nieces, nephews, and family friends.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. William Lukesh officiating. Ruth Ann will be laid to rest with her family at Sorber Cemetery, Reyburn.
