Dave Hennen Morris Jr., who retired in 1965 as a senior vice president of the Bank of New York, died yesterday at the New York Hospital. He was 74 years old and lived at 25 Sutton Place.

Mr. Morris, the son of the late Dave Hennen Morris, who was Minister to Belgium under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, was named a special assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury in 1940, a post he held until he entered the Army as a captain in World War II.

He served under General of the Army Douglas McArthur in the Southwest Pacific for three and a half years, retiring with the rank of colonel. He received the Legion of Merit.

Mr. Morris, who was the son also of the late Alice Vanderbilt Shepard Morris, a great‐granddaughter of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, attended the Browning School and graduated from Harvard College in 1921 and from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1923.

He then joined the Bank of New York and remained with it for 42 years except for his Treasury post and war service. He became assistant treasurer in 1927 and controller in 1929.

Mr. Morris was also a treasurer of International House, a member of the national board of the Young Women's Christian Association and president of the boards of the Sheltering Arms Childrens Service and of the Browning School.

His clubs included the Union, of New York, the. New York Yacht, the Pilgrims, the Harvard of New York and the Creek of Locust Valley, L.I.

He leaves his wife, Marylee;three children, Mrs. Merton J. Borgfeld, Mrs. Frederic D. Carter and Dave H. Morris 3d, of his earlier marriage to the former Alice Agnew; a stepson, Henry M. Shrady 3d; three sis ters, Mrs. Dudley H. Mills, Mrs. Hamilton Hadley and Mrs. W. Knight Sturges, and four grandchildren.
