Arlene Ann Toben, nee Holtmeyer, 79, Washington, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018.

Arlene, daughter of the late Herbert Holtmeyer and wife Catherine, nee Gildehaus, was born Aug. 26, 1938, in Washington. She received her education at St. Francis Borgia Grade School and graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School. On April 19, 1958, Arlene was united in marriage to Mr. Richard Toben. They made their home in Washington, and five children were born to this marriage. Arlene worked several years at Hazel Vinyl Products and many years as a cook at Washington West Elementary School.

Arlene was very much a family-first type of person. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arlene and Richard raised their family at their family clubhouse on the Bourbeuse River for 30-plus years, leaving all with wonderful memories. Arlene also enjoyed flowers, gardening, playing cards, throwing horseshoes and washers, and swimming in the family pool. Arlene was a member of St. Francis Borgia parish and was a volunteer at the Encore thrift store that benefits the parish.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Richard Toben, Washington; one son, Mike Toben and wife Christina, Washington; three daughters, Kathy Rogers and husband Mike, St. Clair, Patricia Hennecke, Washington, and Linda Mense and husband Dan, Hermann; son-in-law, Casey Niederhelm, Washington; 10 grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Jeannie Pope, Union, and Dolores Morris, Oklahoma state; one brother, Gilbert Holtmeyer, Washington; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheryl Niederhelm; her parents; and three brothers, Herbie Holtmeyer, Lambert Holtmeyer and Robert Holtmeyer.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with the Rev. Joseph Wormek officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Masses may be said or memorials given to St. Francis Borgia Regional High School Tuition Assistance.

The family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington.
