William E. Arnault, 81, of 436 Bryant Ave., Syracuse, died Saturday at Crouse Hospital.

Born in Norfolk, he lived in Syracuse 34 years. He retired in 1983 from Conrail after 34 years as an engineer. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, earning several decorations.

Survivors: Seven daughters, Anne Diamond of Geddes, Michelle Adami of California, Mary Ellen Mazzeo and Nora Roesch, both of Camillus, Sheila Mills of Florida, Emily Hunter of Syracuse and Sue Burrows of Rochester; four sons, William E. of Clay, Christopher J. of Liverpool, Thomas J. of Florida and David G. of Syracuse; his companion, Madeline Curoe; three sisters, Violet Stewart of Canada, Muriel Arnault of New Jersey and Rhea Attili of Rochester; two brothers, Joseph of New Jersey and Ronald of California; 22 grandchildren.

Services: 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Edward J. Ryan Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Burial, Greenlawn Cemetery. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 1628 W. Genesee St., Syracuse.
