Death came suddenly this morning to Steve Kunz, 65, a resident of this city for many years and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Kunz, who were among the early settlers of Marshfield.
Mr. Kunz died at St. Joseph's hospital shortly after 10:30 a.m. today, having been a patient there for the past week. He had rested easily through the night and his condition caused no alarm this morning. He had complained of not feeling well for some time before entering the hospital.
Born at Hartford, Wis., on July 12, 1869, Mr. Kunz came to Marshfield with his parents when he was six years old. They settled on a farm within the present city limits and he obtained his education here.
Upon attaining manhood he left Marshfield and was engaged as a police officer at Chippewa Falls for several years, later operating saloons at Ladysmith, Ingram and Minneapolis.
About 16 years ago he returned to Marshfield and entered the taxi business. He had made his home at the Montreal House on South Central avenue for the past 15 years.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Mrs. Fred Rossman, at Neillsville, and a brother, Louis Kunz, at Hibbing, Minn.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
