Loran R. "Gil" Gilmore, 74, of Colona, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation is one hour prior to service on Friday. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Marine Corp. Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 998, Quantico, VA 22134 or a charity of choice.
Gil was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Spokane, Wash., son of Melvin and Helen Atcheson Gilmore. He married Simone Strobbe on May 24, 1975, in Falls Church, Va.
He was in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years, retiring in March of 1977. He was then employed by the U.S. Army as a civil servant in the Washington, D.C. area for 13 years.
He was a Korean and Vietnam veteran.
He was a member of the USMC Association, Marine Corps League-Illowa Detch.; G. Co., 3rd Bn, 1st Marine Division, Korea.
Survivors (and spouses) include his loving wife of 29 years, Simone; sister, Sunshine (Bill) Millhorn, Loon Lake, Wash.; nieces, Collette McIntyre, Spokane, and Melanie Stone, Juneau, Alaska; nephews, Rhett Millhorn, Juneau, and Bradley Millhorn, Anchorage, Alaska; brother-in-law, Frank Strobbe, Silvis; sister-in-law, Marge Strobbe, East Moline; nephews, Tom Strobbe, Geneseo, and Joe Strobbe, Amherst, Ohio; niece, Sue Schatteman, Geneseo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
