Catherine A. Schoofs, 89, of 1550 Parkway died Sunday, November 11,2012 at home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphaels Cathedral.Burial will be in Pocahontas, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home where there will be a parish wake service at 6:30 pm.

Catherine, a regal lady, was born June 1, 1923 in Pocahontas, Iowa, daughter of F. Joseph and Sophia (Homan) Schoofs. She graduated from Sacred Heart School, received her B.A. in Business Education from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa, qualified as a professional court reporter, and then pursued graduate education.

Catherine retired in 1992. Prior to her retirement, she was Executive Secretary to the President of Loras College. Preceding that time she worked as a legal secretary and was also a Registrar/Executive Secretary at the Finley Hospital School of Nursing for three years. From 1945 to 1967, Catherine taught business education at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa, at Wahlert High School and Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque and at St. Marys High School in Cascade.

Catherine is survived by two sisters, Margaret Donnelly of Clinton, Iowa and Grace Michael of Grayslake, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Florence Wienhold and Elizabeth Schoofs; two brothers, Louis and Dr. Joseph Schoofs; two sisters in law and three brothers in law.
