DAVENPORT - Karl H.J. Harksen, of Davenport passed away Saturday March 27, 2004, at his home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Davenport or to Genesis VNA/Hospice.
Karl was born April 6, 1920, in Germany to Frederick and Katharina (Andritter) Harksen. He married Molly Gutzeit on Oct. 26, 1943, in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Army during World War II. He had been employed as a Quality Control Inspector for Oscar Mayer for 44 years, retiring in 1981. His memberships included First Baptist Church of Davenport, Philbrook Masonic Lodge, Davenport Scottish Rite, and the American Schleswig Holstein Assoc. He enjoyed gardening, fishing especially in Minnesota and Indiana; traveling, music and feeding songbirds. Karl is lovingly survived by wife, Molly; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Donna Harksen, Davenport; daughter and son-in-law, Patrice and David Lake, Davenport; grandchildren and spouses, Erich and Erin Harksen, Cedar Rapids, Faith Harksen, Davenport, Elizabeth Bleich, Davenport, and Matthew and Dawn Lake, Farley, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Eda and Eldon Schlueter, Davenport. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Edward.
