REV. SIMON HESSE

ROCHESTER, MICH.- The Rev. Simon (Arthur) Hesse, 83, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Crettenton Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday at St. Kierans Catholic Church, Selby Township, Michigan. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Monastery, Detroit.

Hesse was born April 13, 1914, in Dubuque, Iowa to Henry and Philomena Hesse.

He moved to Wisconsin Rapids, with his parents in 1916, and joined the Franciscan Capuchin Order in 1933. He was ordained into t he priesthood in 1940, and worked with his brother, the Rev. Gerard Hesse, on the Capuchin Home Mission Band. For the past 30 years, he served as retreat director at the Capuchin Retreat Center in Washington, Michigan.

Survivors include one sister, Ethel Kluge, Wisconsin Rapids, one brother, The Rev. Peter Hesse, Marathon. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, (the Rev. Gerard Hess and LeRoy Hesse).
