Phyllis was born March 10, 1925, in Eau Claire to Richard and Etta (Isham) Lawrence. She lived in and around Mondovi all her life.
She married Leslie Ness on May 12, 1962, in Mondovi. She worked as a nurse's aide and in the laundry at The American Lutheran Home. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Zion Lutheran ladies aid. Phyllis enjoyed watching Green Bay Packers games and NASCAR races on TV. She was a homemaker for many years, and spent time with her grandchildren, especially in her correspondence with her extended family in Australia.
Phyllis is survived by four sons and one daughter, Jimmy Kent of Mondovi, Stanley (Carmen) Kent of Tremont, Ill., Steven (Leslie) Kent of McKinney, Texas, Kenneth (special friend Christine Wucherpfennig) of Eau Claire and daughter, LeAnn Faulk of Tomah, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Hana Kent, of Loganholme, Australia; and sister-in-law, Gladys Lawrence, of Eau Claire. In addition, she is survived by 13 grandchildren, Sarah, Mary and Marcus Kent, and Andrea (Greg) Everett of Australia, Jennifer Karr, Jessy Carney and Jodie (Aden) Keeter, Ronda Kent and Leslie (Jesse) Tanner, Stacy (Stephen Olson) Ness, Steven, Justin, and Tessa; along with nine great-grandchildren, Jennah and Abby Karr, Landon Carney, Jaiden Keeter, Kirstin Kent, Britney Kent, Peyton Tanner, Riley Ness and Alayna Olson. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husbands, Leslie M. Ness and LaVerne Kent; parents, Richard and Etta; brothers, Lowell and Lyman Lawrence; son, Dale Kent; and great-grandchild, Savannah Peterson.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi, with Pastor Paul Woebbeking officiating. A lunch will be served after the service. Cremains will be interred at Oak Park Cemetery at 4:30 Friday afternoon.
Friends may call at the Talbot-Poeschel Funeral Home in Mondovi on Thursday, April 26, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
