Anna Mammen
Services were this morning at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls for Anna Mammen, 96, of Redwood Falls, who died Thursday, April 22, 1993 at Wood Dale Nursing Home. Rev. Scott Grorud officiated. Interment was at the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday afternoon and evening at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, continuing until time of services at the church. Pallbearers were Bennie Mammen, Darin Bratsch, Lee and James Mammen, Michael Carroll and Larry Jensen.
Anna Henrietta Mammen was born May 5, 1896 in Morrison, Ill., to Edward and Helen Mathilda (Janssen) Remmers. She resided with her family on the family farm and attended rural schools in Illinois. She married Otto Mammen Feb. 3, 1915 in Morrison. They farmed in Whiteside County and moved to Vail Township, Redwood County, in 1927. In 1931 they moved to a farm in Redwood Falls Township, residing there until 1945, when they moved into Redwood Falls. They owned and operated the Mammen Locker Plant in Redwood Falls. In her later years, she did sitting for children. She was a member of Gloria Dei and former member of Bethany Lutheran of Wabasso, and belonged to the quilters group at Gloria Dei.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Virgil and Mary of Redwood Falls; daughters and son-in-law Lois and J.G. (Bud) Whillshire of Redwood Falls, and Virginia Mammen of Norwalk, Calif.; daughter-in-law Ludie Mammen of Bird Island; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Otto in 1953, sons, Merle and Ronald, four brothers and three sisters.
