She was born in a dug-out built into the side of a hill. From her early childhood, she learned to work and being the eldest daughter of Olean and Christopher, she often helped care for her younger brothers and sisters.
When her parents were called to settle Arizona, Helena was heartbroken to leave her beautiful home, friends and orchards. The trip to Arizona was a long, hard one. She was among those first pupils to attend the St. Johns Academny.
Helena loved beauty which found expression in her flower garden and prize winning sewing handiwork. Wherever she lived, she always had an orchard, vegetable garden and flower gardens.
She had a large family of 10 children. She lived a good life always helping and easing burdens of others.
