Webster --- Elaine Nelson, 81, of Webster died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.

Elaine Eleanor Morehouse was born Thursday, September 1, 1921, to Ray and Minnie (Peterson) Morehouse at Bristol, S.D. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. She attended District 143 country school and graduated from Bristol High School in 1936. In 1937 she worked at the A.S.C.S. office in the Day County Courthouse until 1942.

She married Wesley Nelson on October 21, 1940. After their marriage the couple moved to a farm southwest of Butler in 1942. In 1949 they returned to Webster. In 1953 she went to work for the Federal Crop Insurance office and in 1955 worked in the Day County Auditor's office until 1958 when she began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, transferring to Aberdeen in 1961. She was head cashier until her retirement in 1979. The couple spent the winter months in Weslaco, Texas, and summers at Enemy Swim Lake until 1991 when they moved to Webster. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1990. Mr. Nelson passed away in February 1994. She entered the Johnson Center in Bristol in August 2002.

She was a member of American Lutheran Church in Webster where she was the Treasurer of the Ladies Aid for several years. She also was a Bible School and Sunday School teacher for three years. She was active in the Navy Mothers in Aberdeen. While living in Webster she had Girl Scout Troop #6 for six years and was a Cub Scout leader for two years.

Elaine passed away on Monday, May 5, 2003, at Bristol, S.D., at the age of 81 years, 8 months and four days.

Survivors include one son, Wayne Nelson of Webster; one daughter, Betty (Julian) Meuer of Webster; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Earl and one sister Irene Voss.
