Charles P Staubach, 95, formerly of Niles Park, former general sales manager of the Burroughs Corp., and manager of branch offices in Hartford and Newark, NJ died Friday at a local hospital after a long illness.
Born in Fishkill Village, NY, he lived in Hartford many years.
A leader in the early days of organized bicycling, he was a member of the Century Road Club which he founded in 1897. He was nominated to the American Bicycle Hall of Fame in 1965.
Mr. Staubach was a member and former secretary of the Harford Rotary Club and past president of the Rotary Club of Newark. He served as captain of Company L, 8th New York Infantry, US Volunteers, during the Spanish American War.
He was past commander of the Charles L Burdett Camp, United Spanish War Veterans; a member of the New England Naval and Military Order of the Spanish American War, a member of the Staten Island, NY Historical Society, the Mark Twain Memorial Society and Trinity Church of Hartford.
He leaves three sons, Arnold B Staubach of Houston, Tex., Lodge D Staubach of Harwich, Mass., and Prof. Charles N Staubach of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Robert C Brockway of LaJolla, Calif.; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 am and the James T Pratt Funeral Home, 71 Farmington Ave., with the Rev. Malcolm Van Zandt officiating. Burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Tarrytown, NY.
