Larry Dean Wunder, the son of Albert Byron and Vera Hannah (Duke) Wunder, was born in Harlan, Iowa, on May 9, 1934. He graduated from Harlan High School in 1952 and began working at the Harlan Post Office. On July 2, 1954, Larry married Janet Barbara Nelson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, Iowa. For eight years, he served in the United States Marines Reserves.

Larry later began fixing TVs, and after his 1978 retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, he opened his own business, selling and servicing TVs. He retired from this business in 1996.

Larry was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan, Iowa. He loved bluebirds and built many bluebird houses; he also helped start the bluebird trails in southwest Iowa and Minnesota. He liked to engage in trapping during his early years. Larry, who had a quick and sarcastic sense of humor, enjoyed helping kids with soap box cars and other projects.

Larry D. Wunder died on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa. He had reached the age of 84 years, 3 months, and 6 days.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet Wunder of Harlan, Iowa; one son, Douglas (Deb) Wunder of Ankeny, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon Wunder of Springfield, Illinois, and Caryl Wunder of Fort Morgan, Colorado; one brother, Gaige (Linda) Wunder of Tucson, Arizona; one granddaughter, Melissa Wunder of Frisco, Texas; and other relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Harlan, Iowa, with Rev, Donna Ewert officiating. Dianne Book served as the musician. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
