Christian Sr. was born in 1838 in Kastorf, Gifhorn, Hannover, Germany to Frederick Salge & Christine Warnecke. At the age of 27, Christian sailed to Texas with his brother, Heinrich, aboard the vessel "Bark Iris" and landed in Galveston, TX on 17 Oct 1866. (They emigrated to the U.S. two years before their parents.)

According to Book D, pg. 219 - Comal County Court House, Christian Sr. Salge married Wilhelmine Wolter - 23 Feb 1868 by August Schuchard of the First German Protestant Church, New Braunfels, TX.

The (1/2) half acre square, SALGE FAMILY CEMETERY, was located at the west corner of the 134-acre tract bought by Christian Salge, Sr. from Heinrich Timmermann in August 1870 in Clear Spring (New Braunfels), Guadalupe County, TX on Weltner Road.

The 1851-1896 death records from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Martin, Neighborsville - Hortontown on Loop 337 in New Braunfels, list Christian, Sr. as death record #124, and show his birth as 1830. Christian Salge, Sr. died 12 Feb 1879 at the age of 41 leaving his widow with six small children. He was buried in the far west corner of their property with no headstone.

Christian's widow, Wilhelmine, then married Ludwig Jauer and later sold the 134 acres to her son-in-law, Hermann Boenig. In the deed filed 28 Dec 1900 in the Guadalupe County Court House (Book 17, pg. 280) she stated, "Wilhelmine Jauer reserves a half (1/2) an acre square of said land for a graveyard at the west end where the same is already located on said land."

The property was later sold to the Weltners.

According to the minutes of the June 4, 1967 Salge Reunion, it was decided to investigate moving or putting a marker on Christian Salge, Sr. grave. According to the minutes of the June 2, 1968 - Salge Reunion, Goetz Funeral Home in Seguin, TX, investigated and discovered that three people were buried in the cemetery. So, it was decided to not move the bodies and a marker was placed next to Wilhelmine's grave located in Lone Oak Cemetery, Guadalupe County, TX. In 1968, the picket fence that once enclosed the cemetery was gone and only the four-post remained.

After further research, it has been decided that the other two people buried next to Christian Salge Sr. were his parents. His father, Friedrich Salge was born in 1806 in Germany, and died sometime between 1880-1900. His mother, Christine Warnecke Salge, was born 12 Dec 1812 in Germany and died 9 May 1874 in Clear Spring per the death register (#90) at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Martin in Hortontown (New Braunfels) TX. All three of these Salge's immigrated from Germany to Texas.

The Salge Family Cemetery was located off of Weltner Road and on the back side of Estelea Grv. under the powerlines in a water easement. Alliance Water Company sent a team of archaeologist and anthropologist to find, identify and move the remains. All remains were moved to Lone Oak Cemetery on Friday, August 11, 2023.
