Longtime Kenai resident Alice Rubena "Beanie" McGrady, 77, died May 1, 2005, from lymphatic leukemia and cancer at her home in Kenai with her family by her side. A memorial service was at First Baptist Church, 12815 Kenai Spur Highway. Christopher Carter, doctor of theology, and the Rev. Dean Nichols officiated. Her ashes were buried in the Kenai City Cemetery. After the graveside service, a gathering was held at the church.
Mrs. McGrady was born Feb. 18, 1928, to Billie and Alice Imboden in Mountainair, N.M. She moved to Anchorage in 1951 and homesteaded in Kenai in 1952. She helped build a cabin, improve the homestead and raise the family. Mrs. McGrady worked as a clerk for the Kenai Post Office and then at Peninsula Builders. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenai and taught Sunday school for many years. She received many ribbons from entries in the Alaska State Fair for her vegetables and canning. She enjoyed gardening, bowling and line dancing with the Golden Girls. The family wrote: "Beanie was a gentle, loving person with a winning smile and bubbly personality. She had a great zest for life and was always willing to help anyone in need. Beanie was a great listener and confidant and could bring a smile to anyone's face. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, family and friends." She was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Imboden.
She leaves her husband of 58 years, Harold McGrady of Kenai; children and spouses, Richard and Jennifer McGrady, Bruce and Kathleen McGrady, and Regina and Keith Carter; grandchildren and spouses, Justin and Nigel McGrady, Christopher and Lindsey Carter, Charolotte and Glenn Yamada, Felicia and Richard Davisson, Dionne and P.J. Selanoff, Destinea and David Sonesson; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Billie and John Imboden of New Mexico; and sisters and brother-in-law, Frances Hiatt, and May and Harvey Stephens. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Central Peninsula, P.O. Box 2584, Soldotna 99669, or to Kenai Senior Center, 361 Senior Court, Kenai 99611. Arrangements are with Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
