Vietnamese Statesman. He served as the 8th President of Vietnam from April 2, 2016 to September 21, 2018. He attended the People's Police School and School of Foreign Languages under the Ministry of Home Affairs from 1972 to 1975. In 1980, he became a member of the Vietnamese Communist Party. He later served in various positions at the now Ministry of Public Security during the next five decades before becoming Minister of Public Security in 2011. He served in this position until April of 2016 when he became president of the nation. He served as the president for the next two years until his untimely passing of a viral disease in September of 2018. From 2011 to his passing, he also served in the General Assembly of Vietnam.
