Ted Niedbalski, 85, of Kearney, formerly of Columbus, died Oct. 23, 2018, in Kearney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 562 17th Ave. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m. and visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, both at the church. Visitation will continue from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at McKown Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus, with military honors by Hartman Post # 84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Ted was born on July 22, 1933, near Duncan, to James and Barbara (Liss) Niedbalski.

He lived in Platte Center until the early 1940s, when his family moved to Columbus. He was educated in Platte Center and Columbus, graduating from St. Bonaventure High School in 1951.

He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1952 to July 1956.

In May 1977, he earned an Associate Degree in Business from Platte Community College.

On April 25, 1953, he married Marlene Hanak at St. Mary Church in Stockton, California. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in April, 2018.

Ted was employed as a Purchasing Agent for Kosch Mfg. Co., Personnel Manager at Middle State Mfg. Co., owned and operated a Standard Oil Service Station, owned and operated the Ski Lounge in partnership with his brother, Floyd, and was a sales representative with United Distillers Company of Omaha. He retired in September, 1998.

Ted was a member of St. Anthony Church, Knights of Columbus Council #9264, VFW, American Legion and the Eagles. Ted especially enjoyed his family and traveling with dear friends. He loved to golf, and was instrumental in the founding and organizing of the Polish Invitational Golf Tournament, which will celebrate its 50th year in 2019. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and watching Scotus and Husker sporting events.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Marlene; children, Susan (Edwin) Odom of Moscow, Idaho, Steve (Kathy) Niedbalski of Kearney, Cindy (Matt) Johnston of Colorado, and Jane (Scott) Foutch of Kearney; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Josephine Kielian of Medford, Oregon, Dorothy Spies of Columbus and Barbara Incontro of Omaha; brother, Walter (Joyce) Niedbalski of Columbus; and sisters-in-law Myrtle Niedbalski of Bellevue and Elaine Campbell of Oshkosh.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sharon Niedbalski Johnson; grandson, James Foutch; great-grandson, Damien Clark; sister, Emily Tiwald; brothers Louis, Floyd, Dominic, Ben, Leo, Edward and Stanley.
