Helen Maxine Thresher, 90, of Arkansas City, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Ponca City Medical Center in Ponca City, Okla.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel of Arkansas City. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Helen was born Feb. 29, 1928 (leap year), in Burlington, to William and Rose Mae (Clay) Reisbig. She was reared and educated in Burlington, graduating from high school there in 1945. She worked for Copper’s Publications in Topeka and was the deputy county clerk of Coffey County for seven years.

Helen married Elzie “Jack” Thresher on Nov. 16, 1952, in Arkansas City. The couple made their home locally on a farm north of town. Helen loved her family and grandchildren, all of whom were very special to her. She also enjoyed flowers and having a pretty yard, sewing and making quilts for each family member and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “Jack,” in March of this year; a son-in-law, Gary McDaniel; a brother, Lawrence Reisbig; two brothers-in-law; and a grandchild.

Survivors include three daughters, Debbie and husband, Ed Blass, of Porter, Texas, Sharla and husband, Larry Heltzel of Noble, Okla., and Tammy McDaniel, of Arkansas City; a son, Alan and wife, Ann Thresher, of Springdale, Ark.; two sisters, Sherry Christensen, of Overland Park, and Dorothy Rago, of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
