Marvin was born to Rudolph and Julia (Dohse) Kucera. He grew up on a farm south of Howells and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1961.
Marvin joined the United States Navy in 1961 where he was stationed on the USS O’Brien. After being honorably discharged in 1963, he attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk. On November 6, 1965, Marvin married Charlene Mandel at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. Marvin farmed and worked various jobs including Dodge Manufacturing and Marv’s Grocery Store until his retirement in 2013.

Marvin was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and a prior president of the Dodge Volunteer Fire Department. Along with his love to be outdoors fishing and hunting, Marvin enjoyed American history, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren.
