TCSO identifies father killed after confronting burglar in west Tulsa (KTUL)

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office is searching for a suspect who shot and killed a man near I-244 and South 33rd West Avenue early Thanksgiving morning.
Neighbors describe the victim as a 38-year-old hard-working father of three.
According to deputies, the man heard someone breaking into his truck around 2:15 a.m. He went outside to confront the burglar and was shot in the head.
TCSO says the victim's wife saw the shooter ride away on a bicycle.
Long-time neighbor Doug Scott has lived in the neighborhood for over a decade. He said he heard two gunshots and ran outside, but didn't see anyone.
Scott says their quiet neighborhood has some small problems with petty crime, but this is a place where neighbors look out for each other.
He understands why his neighbor confronted the burglar because he would have done the same thing.
“People, not just here in our area all over everywhere, are sick of people just trying to take what they want from hardworking people that have a family to support," Scott said. "[The victim] goes out and buys things and someone feels like they have the right to take it.”
Scott has a security camera and is reviewing it to see if it caught the burglar on camera.
Deputies identify the victim as Staijeck Helm.
If you have any information, please call TCSO at 918-596-5601.
