Franklin George Siedschlag was born October 9, 1923, in Juda, Wisconsin, to his parents Franklin Paul Siedschlag and Sylvia Asmus Siedschlag. He grew up on a farm in Juda as the youngest of five children. He was known by many as "Dick", a nickname he was given as a young child. After high school he worked on the family farm for many years, then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his degree in 1956.

During college he met and married Margret Strang Stewart on August 28, 1954. After college he started his career in real estate working at Opitz Realty. This experience led to his next opportunity in 1962, when Dick leveraged his real estate knowledge and took a position with the Department of Revenue for the State of Wisconsin. During his distinguished career of 28 years he worked tirelessly assisting the many village, town, and city assessors and county boards throughout southern Wisconsin on taxation matters. He worked in the Department until his retirement in 1990.

Dick enjoyed meeting new people and getting together with friends and family. Throughout his career and during retirement, he retained a strong passion for and active involvement in the Green County farming community where he was raised. He possessed a strong faith that nourished him throughout life. In retirement, Dick and Margret traveled extensively in Europe and Brazil as part of the Friendship Force, an organization that facilitates cultural exchanges.

Dick passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, December 31, 2017. He was survived by his son, Greg (Marcy) of Minneapolis; grandsons, Andy and Grant; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Marvin and William; sisters, Arlene Keener and Ethel Smith; and wife, Margret.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 5, 2018, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 203 Wisconsin Avenue, Madison.
