Deutsche Evangelisch-Lutherische St Martini Kirchengemeinde, Kapstadt, Südafrika
Jacob Hertling arrived in New York on 19 Jan 1885 aboard the J H Ingersoll from Cape Town, South Africa.
Jacob Hertlein, son of Nick Hertlein, died Friday [4 July] afternoon of gastro intestinal trouble caused from eating green apples. Burial took place at the Catholic cemetery Saturday [5 July] afternoon. The young man soon would have been twenty-one years old, and the thoughtless act which brought him untimely death deepens the sorrow of those who mourn his loss.
