New Years Eve Fire Claims Two Lives
By West Kentucky Star Staff
PADUCAH - Two people were killed Monday morning in a fire at a McCracken County home.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office says deputies and other responders arrived shortly before 2 a.m. at the scene of a mobile home fire in the 2800 block of Lauren Lane. Deputies said two people were trapped inside when the first deputy arrived on scene, and half of the home was engulfed.
One of the residents, 57-year-old Dina Funderburk told deputies she awoke to smoke in the home, and her husband, 51-year-old Edward Funderburk had pushed her outside and gone back inside to try to rescue Dina's mother, 82-year-old Joan Dale.
Responders were unable to get into the home, and Both Edward and Joan were later found dead inside.
Deputies said no foul play is suspected, and that the fire may have started from a cigarette.
Dina Funderburk was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released.
