Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, January 9, at 10:00 AM, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay, with Fr. James Novotny celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Rosary. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested as those of the family or donor's choice.
Lavern Anthony Babel was born November 8, 1927, in St. Bernard, Nebraska, to Max and Barbara (Hutchmacher) Babel. He attended school at St. Bernard Catholic School. Lavern worked on the family farm before entering the United States Army on July 26, 1951, during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 25, 1953. Lavern was a photographer during his military service, and has been honored by South Korea for his photography work.
Lavern was united in marriage to Dorothy Pojar on October 5, 1954, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh, Nebraska. Over the years, the couple farmed in the Madison, Albion, and Lindsay, Nebraska area. Lavern was a Quarter Horse trainer for many years. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends, and was a devout Catholic.
