James Edward Gorny, 54, of Hutchinson Rd., died suddenly Sunday, May 27, 2007 in his home. Jim was born July 26, 1952 in Duluth to Edward and Dorothy (Archer) Gorny and he was a graduate of East High School. He took great pride in working for Duluth Public Works. Jim loved his job, and had a great work ethic. He took pride in plowing, setting up, taking down and cleaning up after all of Duluth's major events, such as Grandma's Marathon, Blues Fest, Northshore In Line and street dances. He was to receive the 2007 Rudy Perpich Public Service Award on June 15. Jim loved the outdoors, he loved to hunt, fish, spending time on Lake Superior or the family cabin on Pelican Lake. He was a master on the outdoor grill and could fix anything. He loved racing, was a proud Ford owner and he enjoyed the Padre Islands in Texas. Jim is survived by his love of the past 18 years, Barb; children, Benjamin (Lisa) Gorny of Superior and Nicole Gorny of Fridley, Minn.; parents, Edward and Dorothy Gorny of Mission, Texas; step-children, Heidi (Matt) Schmidt and Holly (Jamie) Colemer; brothers, Edward (Vickie) Gorny of Eveleth, Minn., Jerry (Sue) Gorny of Prior Lake, Minn., Timothy (Lorna) Gorny of Chanhassen, Minn. and Donald (Sheila) Gorny of Mankato, Minn.; sisters, Jackie (Bob) Hulett of Mission, Texas and Mary (Bill) Fish of Coon Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jayden, Camden, Desirae and Marrissa; and his hunting companion, Jezebel. VISITATION:5-7 p.m. with Wake Prayers at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday in St. Lawrence Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Rd., where Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Thursday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, with arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, (218) 727-3555.
