Bridget Billette passed away on December 11, 2018 at the age of 96 years.

Bridget was born on August 16, 1922 to Philip and Mary Canny at their seaside home near the townland of Dunaff, County Donegal, Ireland. Her father was a fisherman by trade. As a teenager, she and her older sister, Margaret, would sometimes take a small boat to visit friends in Malin Head, crossing an inlet that saved them much time over the usual land route. Returning early the next day, Bridget would comment on the beautiful sunrise as they rowed back home. During WWII, Bridget watched as a German airman parachuted from his damaged plane and landed near her home. Since the Republic of Ireland was neutral in the war, her family offered him food, drink and a place to stay overnight. The next day her father walked with him to contact the proper authorities. In 1947, Bridget traveled to the USA to visit her sister Margaret, now married and living in Albuquerque, NM, and found work as a seamstress. In 1950, Bridget met her future husband, Dean Billette, for the first time at a USO gathering. In 1952, they had a second chance meeting at the same USO. After a short courtship, they were married. Soon there were two boys, as the family lived first in Washington state and then California. In 1962, they moved to Colorado Springs, CO. Bridget enjoyed baking bread and making shirts, curtains and whatever else she could with her sewing machine. Once the boys were raised, Bridget and Dean moved to Rockaway Beach, MO in 1978. After her husband’s death in 2001, Bridget moved to Broomfield, CO in 2004 to be close to her family.

Bridget is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dean, and eight siblings. She is survived by her two sons.
Bridget was interred on January 10, 2019.
